Build a Successful Startup - From Idea to Reality (Workshop)

Course Overview:

They say startups don’t starve--they drown. You never have too few ideas or too few options, you have too many! This course is about developing your startup idea. We’re going to talk through understanding whether it’s a strong idea or a weak one, introduce you to a couple tools used by top startups everywhere to structure their strategies, and then dive into how you can start making realprogresson your idea(instead of just planning to do it someday).

Note that this course is aimed at online technology startups. The tools are useful for many types of businesses operating under conditions of uncertainty, but most of the examples & discussion will be about technology.

Course Leader:

Daniel Tenner is the CTO and cofounder of GrantTree, Woobius, and Vocalix, a full-time entrepreneursince 2007. He previously worked at Accenture and studied Physics at the University of Oxford. He blogs aboutstartups at http://swombat.com

Benefits:

You’ll leave with a few new tools for thinking about early stage tech startups, and hopefully a whole lot of clarity about your own ideas!   If we’re successful, you’ll leave with a clear sense of how to begin making real progress on your business--this week instead of this year.

Course Plan:

We’ll alternate between brief lectures and small group workshops to get comfortable with tools, plus bits of individual work to apply the tools to your own business ideas.

Course Structure:

We’re going to talk about what makes a good idea versus a bad idea (for you, not in general!) and then dive into figuring out how to get started making real progress on your own business. What does day 1 look like? What's the quickest path to revenue?
